Every day we find ourselves struggling, but sometimes through that struggle comes victory. The hardest part of all this is understanding the nature of impermanence—learning to have enough gratitude to accept the victories as wins and the struggles as lessons.
For the better part of my life, I’ve struggled with who I am
because I became a product of my environment. I grew up around a lot of anger,
and that made me angry, especially because I was picked on a lot when I was
younger. Then I got into a business where everyone seems angry. The
transportation industry is wild, wild.
Sometimes we feel like we can run away from our surroundings
and that’s going to make everything better. But the truth of the matter is, if
we’re screwed up inside and don’t address it, we’re still bringing bags of
bullshit with us everywhere we go.
The point is, we have to understand that the struggle
happens every day. We are going to win, and we are going to lose. It’s just all
part of the game. The important thing is not to get lost in all of the crap.
Remember who the hell you are in this life. Don’t let
anything sway you too far toward the good or the bad. Remember: impermanence is
key. As long as you know that, you’ll always win the struggle.
You may not be Ponyboy, but I’m telling you: stay gold.
