We wander around trying to find answers all the time, but
sometimes in life maybe we just ask the wrong questions. Maybe it's not even a
matter of asking the wrong questions — maybe it's that we don't ask questions
because we're just so full of answers. We are so infested with our own opinions
of ourselves, the poor self-talk, the excuse-making, all the other places that
we go to distract us from who we actually are.
So who are we? The truth is we really don't know unless we
really dig in to find out. It comes from facing up to all the crazy shit you
did as a kid and the mistakes you made as an adult. It comes from a place of
knowing that your ego distracted you from the truth that was actually
happening. It comes from a place of understanding that we are just here, and
everything else is fed to us by our brain.
And when we are constantly being fed by our brain, being
supplemented by lots of social media and advertisements trying to tell you that
you're not where you're supposed to be in life — but you can do this and it
will get you there — making you believe in so much bullshit that doesn't even
matter. It's like awakening from that matrix that is the greatest introduction
to our self.
Sometimes we have to do really wild shit to figure out what
it is we really want and who we really are. Sometimes it means going on
vacation by ourselves, or jumping on that kiddie ride, or just picking up a
guitar and trying to play a song. That's when we find that artistic part of us,
that stuff that helps us express who we are, that we start to get in touch with
who we are.
The bills, the work, the drama, parenting — all that gets in
the way because somewhere it was deemed all that shit was important. But what
truly is important is finding out who you are, so you know exactly how to
negotiate any situation that comes your way and make it easier for you to
handle the things you need to do.
And just remember, there is no time limit. We are all
practicing in here. We are all trying here. We are all learning here. It's just
moving those steps forward and remembering that our breath can take us places
that our mind cannot.
